About open-source alternatives

Still curious? Email info@appsgit.com.

What is an open-source alternative?

It is software with publicly available source code that does the same job as a commercial product. Most of the alternatives listed here can be self-hosted, so your data stays on a server you control and there are no per-seat subscription fees.

Are open-source alternatives really free?

The software is free to use and modify. Self-hosting it means you pay only for the server, often a few dollars a month for a small VPS. Some projects also sell a managed cloud version if you would rather not run it yourself.

How do you choose which alternatives to list?

We match each commercial product with self-hosted apps that cover the same core use case. Open-source apps come first, then source-available ones and apps whose license appsgit could not verify; within each group, projects with at least 12 commits in the last 12 months come before less active or archived ones, then by GitHub stars. Source-available apps are labelled and never called open source.
