# AppVerifier BG (open-source developer tool)

> AppVerifier BG is a free, open-source developer tool for Android. Verify installed apps against shared signature hashes and databases. It has 112 GitHub stars and is released under the ISC license, and you can install it from F-Droid.

AppVerifier BG verifies that installed Android apps match their expected signing certificate fingerprints. Compare an app's signing hash against shared text, an internal database synced from Privacy Guides, or your own user database. Hashes are checked for valid SHA-256 format — when verification fails, they're labeled "Expected" vs "Found" so you can tell which is which. Apps signed with debug certificates are flagged as insecure. Split APK bundles (.apks, .apkm, .xapk) and ZIP files containing a base APK are also accepted.
