# Skillmd (MCP server)

> Skillmd is an MCP server that adds developer tools to AI assistants such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Cursor. Search, fetch, lint, and install Agent Skills (SKILL.md) from the SkillMD registry. It has 190 GitHub stars, is released under the MIT license and runs locally with npx -y skillmds.

The same server is also hosted as a remote MCP endpoint, so nothing runs on your machine.

## Environment variables

- `SKILLMD_TOKEN` (secret): SkillMD personal access token (enables skillmdlistsaved and personalized recommendations)
- `SKILLMD_API`: Override the registry API base URL
