# IWE (iwe.md) (MCP server)

> IWE (iwe.md) is an MCP server that adds productivity tools to AI assistants such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Cursor. Markdown knowledge base as agent memory. Runs against the notes directory it is started in. It has 1,795 GitHub stars, is released under the Apache-2.0 license and runs locally with npx -y @iwe-org/mcp.

Your notes are your agent’s memory. IWE is where you work on them together. Too many AI conversations start from zero. You explain your project, your decisions, your reasoning — then find yourself explaining it all again next session. Your own notes live somewhere else, out of the agent's reach.
