# Deltachat Desktop (open-source chat app)

> Deltachat Desktop is a free, open-source chat app for Windows, macOS and Linux. Decentralized private messenger with chat-shared tools and games for Desktop. It has 1,621 GitHub stars and is released under the GPL-3.0 license. Its source code is on GitHub at deltachat/deltachat-desktop.

There is a third, WIP edition based on Tauri instead of Electron. It lives in its own repository — deltachat-tauri — and consumes this repository's frontend through a pinned upstream/ submodule. See Fediverse Thread and Delta Tauri - nlnet project.
